Honouring the Artist Within

On the theme of honouring the artist within, Marianne Adams is facilitating one of four workshops at the 23rd Cork Art Therapy Summer School. (20th June to 3rd July 2013. Details below).

Honouring the Artist Within

“Why should we all use our creative power…? Because there is nothing that makes people so generous, joyful, lively, bold and compassionate, so indifferent to fighting and the accumulation of objects and money.” Brenda Ueland

The term ‘bold’ has come to mean inconsiderate and naughty within Irish culture, particularly in relation to our children. It’s original meaning of course is very different. But do we sometimes put such a premium on how we ‘should’ be that we quash our childlike sense of adventure and creative vitality?

Irish culture paradoxically is also one that knows, back to its very beautiful and Ancient roots, the power, generosity and value of creative expression. Indeed creative expression is one of our finest and most vibrant treasures.

Let us explore this paradox with curiosity and compassion, let us reclaim and honour the Artist within….

Creativity, curiosity and inspiration are qualities innate within every one of us. However, as we know, learned patterns and life experience can impact upon the flow of these vital energies.

Within the safety of this workshop, we will gently explore ways in which we can all engage, encourage, support and enjoy our own inner artistry. Our palette will include colour and textures from the realms of the imagination, spirituality, fun, psychoanalysis, common sense and, of course, art therapy.
